Food and Drink Products to Be Aware Of
If you have a kid that is not very active, there are some food
and drink products that you need to be aware of. The first one we
will cover is pretzels. A lot of people think that pretzels are
better for you than chips, but actually they have enough carbohydrates
in just a handful of them to make up for almost a bag of chips.
So if you have under active kids, this could cause them to gain
weight fast. You also need to make sure that the kids stay away
from Kool Aid. If they are not going to be running around, outside
to burn that sugar off, then they need to find a healthier drink.
Let's face it. Organic food products are high in demand. You'll
see people walking down mall aisles looking for those organic food
product sticker labels, a practice set by the FDA, the Food and
Drug Administration.
The organic food must pass a stringent set of requirements set
by the FDA. For example, the food must be grown with any use of
chemical additives. Another example is that the livestock cannot
be given growth hormones and antibiotics. These are but a few of
the long list of requirements.
What are some requirements for certified organic food?
The demand for organic food has risen and it's caught the attention
of the government. The government has stepped in to make sure everything
goes according to plan by issuing certain criteria. Certified organic
food involve more than not using pesticide and chemical fertilizer.
The entire production chain must meet the FDA's requirements. How
the seeds grow, how they're maintained, and how they reach consumers
- all of these must pass stringent standards.
In addition, all the suppliers and 3rd party participants must
pass the organic food standards. Seed providers, farmers, food processing
companies, retailers, and even restaurants must pass their own appropriate
criteria. Something worth taking note here: these standards differ
by country. Just because a certain practice is allowed in the United
States, it doesn't mean the same applies to different countries.
Basically, there can be no influence of synthetic products anywhere
along the production chain. Whether it be the use of chemicals,
pesticides, food additives, or even the use of sewer sludge (as
fertilizer) it will quickly exempt a company from earning a certified
organic food provider label.
Production Participants Have Standards, Too
Companies that are involved in the supply chain hoping to remain
certified organic food providers must maintain meticulous records
of the products' production and sales. In addition, records must
be kept for any equipment that is used in their manufacturing process.
They're also required to maintain a solid border between organic
growing areas and those that are not going to used for certified
organic food.
